Normally with sponges you can see an opening where they filter water in and out. Sponges come in all colors, shapes and sizes.

:welcome to Nanotank! With 144w of lighting on the 20L tank you could have mushrooms/softies and even some LPS without any issues. As for the clam, that just isn't enough light to sustain one. A clam needs atleast MH lighting to survive as they get their energy from the light.

You can also use a rubberband to secure the base of the stalk to a piece of rubble rock. HTH :mrgreen:

Starfish are sensitive to fluctuations in parameters. With the tank just being setup today, it likely will not survive the cycle. It does need to go back to the LFS. After the cycle, atleast you'll know what to go get as part of your clean up crew now! Return it until after your cycle, it...

Your live rock will start your cycle, from the dieoff that naturally occurs. There is no need to do any water changes during the cycle, once your parameters level out, then you'll start your water changes. HTH :)
