    Sand Bed Cleaner Suggestions

I am quite fond of using nassarious snails, either the vibex or the tongan ones. Spaghetti worms can also be useful as can sand sfiting cucumbers but IMO they are better suited for a larger tank. Mini-brittel stars also help to some extent, especially with aerating the upper layers of sand...

    mixing the water

I aerate mine for at least half a day, the amount of time needed to properly aerate the water IMO is also dependant on the size pump you use and how much turbulence it produces. I use a Mag 7 pointed towards the top of a 30 gallon trashcan and get alot of water movement. I have also used small...

    Kalk Additive / Goniopora

:welcome to nanotank! You really should only add kalk after lights out, this is especially true in our small systems where pH would be greatly affected. It is natural for pH to drop in our tanks after lights out due to cellular respiration and photosynthesis. Kalk has a very high pH so by...

Anyone use a water return manifold?

I sure don't but maybe I can get with a buddy of mine whose tank we put a return manifold on, its a 315 gallon tank with 3 or 4 outlets on the manifold. I'll see if I can get a pic or get him to post one.

    Bubble Algae

When removing it make sure its done out of the tank like John mentioned, if one of the bubbles pops it releases spores that form new bubble algaes.

Anyone use a water return manifold?

I have used one and it is a good way to keep the entire tanks water moving. For no more than it costs to set one up they are definately worth the effort.

    Building a tank

Has anyone here ever tried building their own tank? I am considering building a 7.5 gallon cube (1 foot square) to make the best of a light fixture I have and wondered if anyone here has done this before and if they had what insight might be offered for this project. This isn't something that...

Help, Fuge light growing bad algae in my return lines !!!

The two main fixes for this problem are to replace the hoses with black lines so the light can't get through them or two wrap the lines with something to prevent the light from getting in. Of course neither one will help clean the algae already there but if you were to go with the wrap method...

NASSARIOUS & LFS water (please read ok more info provide

I too think you have too many for a 12 gallon tank. I think maybe 4 of the big ones or 3 big ones and the two litle ones should be plenty. Since they are omnivores you could keep them all as long as you feed enough so they get plenty to eat but I would cut back on the number so I wouldn't risk...

    Tank Cleaning

I also use vinegar and water. I think that if I can drink it then it is safe to use around the tank.

    35 hex @ 1 month - and beyond

I would be quite interested in your findings John so keep us posted. I am also interested to see if you have a color change. As I said in me other post the observations were made by a fellow reefer that is in my reef club in their set-up and not my personal experience. I don't have any MHs on...

ATTN: All DIY;ers I need some help

Where does the water spray out of the spraybar? Does it come from all around the refugium area or just one end or what? Does it work well the way it is designed or do you see a need to make a change? Thank you.

    New Setup - AGA 75 Gallon Pre-Drilled

FWIW if you must use a test kit for testing pH I found that the Salifert kit was the easiest to read, all of the others seemed to have colors that are just to close to each other to get an accurate reading.

    chemi-clean

The reason I used the ChemiClean is that according to the label it doesn't kill nitrifying bacteria. IME the others are just an antibiotic that kills bacteria non-specifically. It is good to know about the potential clam problem though.

Any thoughts on the next chat?

Has anyone given any thought to holding another chat? One thing that may make it more accessable to all would be to hold it on a sunday afternoon so all of the time zones won't be a factor.
