    Fish for Nanocube 12

:welcome to nanotank Dillon! It sounds like you have a good selection of fish that should work out okay. You may not need to upgrade the return pump on a 2006 model because they are using a bigger pump than before. Give it a try and see before you buy a bigger one.

Cool looking snail thing at my LFS

These are definitely better suited for a much larger tank that has been set up for awhile an is quite mature and stable. They are extremely attractive and hard to resist though.

    Will hermit crabs attack corals?

I agree with Sadie, there must have been some dead tissue or something that attracted them to the frag. If you find them picking at a coral they are probably just scavenging dead tissue.

    Pico and I mean pico

As I recall they had 3 white LEDs and 3 blue ones, all staggered kinda like this: Blue white Blue white blue white I thought you would be able to see the color differences where each of the LEDs was located but they seemed to blend together quite...

    Algae...

I had one of the court jesters for awhile in one of my big tanks but he deisappeared after 3 or 4 weeks. He seemed to be a great addition to the tank and I'll probably get another one for a smaller tank in the future. He seemed very active and like to scurry in and out of the rockwork.

Eric, Small ones like that are not harmful to the tank at all in fact they are good scavengers. Its the real big ones you want to get rid of. I like to compare them to a cactus, its not the animal that stings its the "hairs" that stick in your skin and are quite irritating. I have also heard...

    Starting A Tank

I was mainly suggesting that for immediate use to see if it would be enough to help. The blue and white bulbs should be enough to get some mushrooms, polyps, xenia, etc. growing in there. Keep us current on how things come along.

Too bad you are not a big DIYer, that second tank would be a good one to try lighting with all LEDs. They had a tank at MACNA that was a 2 1/2 lit with 6 LEDs that looked pretty good but they said they just set it up and had no idea how well it would do in the long run. They used a heat sink...

    Starting A Tank

There doesn't appear to be alot of light escaping from the filter lid, maybe propping it open a bit will allow some of the heat to dissapate enough for you to run your lights together. I don't really see a way to add more lighting without completely gutting your hood and starting over. Is...

Just bought a nano with BRISTLE WORMS HELP

I am with you Sadie, I have a ton of the small ones but I don't want any of the ones that look like furry snakes in my tanks. Any over about 2 1/2 inches is food for the porcelin chair.

    Starting A Tank

I see your problem now, I thought the lights you have were PCs, there are not alot of bulb options in the smaller T-5s like you have (even here in the states). Is there room for a small computer fan or two in your current hood? If it can be modded to accept one or two you may be able to get...

    Starting A Tank

You can have the blue by itself like you are describing but you should leave it on when the white bulbs are on too. If the temp. rises to 81 or 82 and doesn't get any higher that should be okay but you want to keep it as close to 80 degrees as possible. Would the addition of a small fan be a...

    Pico and I mean pico

The second one makes me think of a top to a clear butter dish. I guess with a little imagination anything that will hold water and is see through is a potential pico-reef.

    Starting A Tank

Going back a bit, the yellow rose gobie is not a sand sifter but it is one of the shrimp gobies that pairs up well with a randalls pistol shrimp (alpheus randalli, this also stays small at just over an inch). You also want to avoid red lighting, red light is what nuisance algaes use and they...

Just bought a nano with BRISTLE WORMS HELP

A hypersalinity dip like you described won't hurt anything, the worms and other life will simply come out of the rock looking for a more comfortable place to go, you can then pick and choose what goes back in the tank. If you have any corals on the rock wave your hand in front of them to make...

Are you planning on using MHs with either one? Those are some wild little tanks. Do you think you will keep them set up for awhile to see how they do?
