Another Auto Top-Off System made simple

This is the same principle used by the Nurce systems that were available a few years back, they no longer make them now though from what I understand. Of course the Nurce systems were made for larger systems with the smaller one holding something like 8 gallons of water as I remember.

    adding fans?

I have heard of people replacing their fans with upgraded fans but not adding extra ones. I would also be interested if they are adding additional fans.

    12G 24W NEEDS BULB HELP!!! :D

I aksed Chris at Nanocustoms the same question when I bought the upgrade kit for my 12 DX and he recommended option 2 on your list. A friend of mine tried the Realux bulbs and really liked them and recommended that I use those when I replace my bulbs.

    Cyano Outbreak

I would try a reduced lighting period along with new carbon/Chemipure, reducing feeding, and manual removeal before going with the chemical method. You can always use the chemicals like ChemiClean if all else fails. I personally like to use chemicals as a last resort. I you do go with the...

    HH Nudibranch

Its hard to make a positive ID by this pic but from what I can see he looks like the zoanthid eating nudibranch that sometimes hitchhikes its way into tanks. This is not a good hitchhiker and should be taken out of the tank. I know that Eddy (Ed Gray) has a real good pic of one that maybe he...

Don't you hate it when the AC goes out...

I am so sorry to hear about this misfortune. I wish there was some way to go back in time and make the necessary steps to have prevented this disaster.

    dieing coraline algea

The corals could be having some problems due to the algae or they could also be suffering from lighting shock, corals also should be slowly acclimated to lighting changes.

    bangaai cardinal

:welcome to the board. The biggest problem I see is that these fish are usually recommended to be kept in groups of 3 or more. I personally have a single spotted cardinal (pajama cardinal) in a tank with a pair of false perculas and a yellow watchman goby and have no problems at all. I guess...

    dieing coraline algea

My thoughts are that your coraline is dying off due to light shock, in other words the increase in the lighting and changing of the spectrum was too rapid for the coraline and it is also fueling the algal bloom. I would cut way back on the lighting and slowly bring it back up to your current...

What to put in my Nano cube 12

My vote is for the sexies or a combination of sexies and some other invert, I like this because it doesn't add alot to the bioload. You could always add something like a porcelin or anemone crab, pom-pom crab, cleaner shrimp or fire shrimp, etc. I don't care for the idea about having to put a...

Abalones are not usually considered to be an ideal nano inhabitant, they are usually only kept in larger systems.

    No power...the aftermath

On the subject of the shrimps molt, it is fine to just leave it in the tank. It will break down in a day or two and return the nutrients back to the tank that it is made out of.

    Refugium/Sump Size

I like them, mainly because they are a natural form of filtration by growing macroalgaes to out-compete with the nuisance algaes for nutrients. They are also a neat source of natural food for corals and inverts. On a small system they probably won't produce enough food to sustain all of the...

    Ricordia Mushroom question

That is how they expell their waste so if its just coming out of the mouth I would say your fine. Ricordias are great corals for a nano and some of them are quite hardy, this is especially true of the ricordia floridas.

    NEW TANK

Watts per gallon was a good rule of thumb when almost all reef lighting was NO fluorescent, since there are so many different types of lighting available now each with its own characteristics PAR is a much better guide to use for lighting.

    Cleaning Crew

Sounds great. I have no rpoblem at all with the bumble bee snails like I mentioned in an e-mail, I just wanted to point out that they are not usually considered a cleaner. According to Dr. ron Shimeks book on inverts they are predatory on other snails and worms, since he is an invertebrate...

    Shrimp behavior

It sounds like you have found your answer but I thought it would be a good place to add that it is quite normal for shrimp to disappear and become skiddish for a day or two after they molt, this is to give their new shell a chance to properly harden since they are quite vulnerable during this time.

    buying a new nano tank

If the Finnex is an acrylic tank then it would survive shipping much better, the shipping monkeys would destroy a glass tank I am afraid and it would be a nightmare getting it replaced I am afraid.
