just mount it like 18" above the tank and keep a fan blowing between it and the water. wouldn't hurt to try would it? :?: :?: :?:

    BLACK SAND

Piratesreef used black sand and I think his tank worked out pretty well for him. I've heard of some people getting some funky colors in there skimate for a little while from it but it usually goes away. http://www.nanotank.com/forum/viewtopic ... &start=120

That's a bummer man. I hope it works out for you. I guess getting shoved into a 180 isn't all that bad. Wish I had some advice.

    Nano Questions

Bigger isn't always better. It takes longer to fill up and more $$$$$$ to do so. I'm glad I started with an all in one. I learned a lot from that tank. If you can do it for the same money and think it's a better choice for you in the long run then do it. And what would you get with...

    Regarding Biocube 14gallon

Some people will tell you to vacuum........ Others will tell you not to. I have the larger grain coral sand and it is totally necessary for me to vacuum it once a month or so. I just do about a 1/4 of it at a time.

that light will do fine for starting out with mushrooms and zoos. you'll want to upgrade it eventually.

For your first tank..... I definitely recomend an all in one type of system that's already put together. I started with a 12 gallon and was able to learn a lot and figure out what I wanted to upgrade to. 3 months later I was in a 60 with a 20 gallon sump. Anyway. It's the cheapest way to get...

    Regarding Biocube 14gallon

A hydrometer will be fine for you at this point. Also calc and Alk not entirely neccesary untill you have coral that are very dependent on these two. If you keep up with your water changes they will stay well enough for what your starting off with. YOu need to test for Ammonia, Nitrite...

    Regarding Biocube 14gallon

when you buy the LS just make sure it's wet. If you can't see water in the bag then look for another. At minimum make sure the sand is moist and you can see it clumping together. Most of the time the bags are punctured one way or another and the sand will dry out there by losing it's life. I...

    Regarding Biocube 14gallon

25 pounds would probably be plenty. you definitely don't want to fill up your tank with Rock. I have about 50 lbs. in my 60 gallon and it's doing it's job just fine. Some people like more but I like more room for the fish. As long as you have enough to keep your parameters where they need to...

    Regarding Biocube 14gallon

Don't forget your going to need a good light on that macro. If it's not lit well it won't last. There are a few different ways to do this. you can research them in the DIY forum. I would go with a 24 or 29 if you want an anemone with a couple of clowns. I think it would be fine however...

    Regarding Biocube 14gallon

oh yeah a BTA..... I've heard from a few sources not to get an anemone for a smaller tank. They move around a lot and will disturb your coral and probably kill them. I've also heard that to have good success with anemones you need to put them in an established tank such as a tank that's been...

    Regarding Biocube 14gallon

Good idea. a refugium has quite a few benefits and maybe some others can add to my list. 1. provides a place to put a macro algae. This consumes the nutrients that you don't want in your tank. 2.your tank is going to have algae in one form or another so you might as well try to promote...

    Regarding Biocube 14gallon

Filters---- the filtration for reef aquariums is actually pretty simple. Most people just rely on the LR and LS, then add some macro Algae to absorb what's left over. Carbon is pretty important as well, as far as I'm concerned. It will remove heavy metals and keep your water crystal clear...
