Nano-Cube, Bio-Cube or regular rectangular tank?

It is really a matter of personal taste. The cubes offer some nice clean lines and most of the workings of the tank are hidden. If you were to buy a regular rectangular tank you have many more options as to the filtration, lighting, etc. I personally have 2 cubes (a JBJ 12DX and a JBJ 6...

    emerald crab molting?

The frequency of molts depends on his rate of growth, the appendages will regrow but sometimes take a few molts before they are fully back.

I like to run either carbon or one of the exchange resins like Boyds Chemipure. They take out the chemicals that cause yellowing in the tank as well as some of the chemicals that we are better off not having to deal with in our tanks. Some people like to run carbon only occasionally but I run...

Questions about DIY acrylic pico reeftanks...

They will need to be dressed and sanding is one way to do it. Since I have the tools though I use either my power planer (handheld) or my jointer to dress the edges. I also found early on that a carbide scraper like you would use to scrape paint before paining worked well as long as the blade...

    Suggestions for Bio Cube 14...

:welcome to the board. First thing you need to do is get an ID on the hitchhiker crab, he may be Something you don't want in your tank. I think an all zoanthid tank is a great idea. I find all of the different color morphs to be quite stunning.

Questions about DIY acrylic pico reeftanks...

1/4 inch is fine, thats what I use for most of my projects. The scoring and snapping method will work but it will take alot longer to prepare the joints for bonding, I use a tablesaw with a carbide tipped blade. Use a blade with as many teeth as you can, this will help make smoother cuts. You...

:welcome to the board. Like already said no lights during cycling, they will just promote the growth of nuisance algaes. Carbon is a great addition to help keep the water clear and odors down during cycling. You may want to take a look into your tank sometime with a small flashlight, you may...

    PH Levels

Make sure that the water is well aerated for at least 24 hours after mixing the salt in, some mixes need time to stabilize before being added to the tank. The aeration will also allow excessive co2 to be blown off which also keep pH low.

:welcome to the board! Use some caution with the Skilter, they are built out of fairly thin plastic that is easy to crack.

New JBJ 28 gallon HQI opinion

I haven't seen the 28 gallon in my area yet. I have seen the Aquapods (24 gallon) that are available in either a 70 watt or 150 watt MH and I do like them alot. The light they use is available seperately as a Current SunPod. I have a JBJ 6 and a 12 gallon tank but both of them are lit by PC...

Question about turbulence at bottom of tank

Like Mike said once the tank matures the sand will have a thin bacterial layer on it that will help keep it in place. This is of course referring to sand that is being affected by small currents and not from strong currents or direct flow.

    5.5g tank.

What are the 1/2" bulkheads for? If they are going to be returns they are fine but if they are going to be for the drains they need to be larger, I would use 3/4". You should be able to keep a single neon goby or other very small fish but I would probably go for a small invery like a shrimp...

New JBJ 28 gallon HQI opinion

:welcome to the board Ed! What kind of corals are you planning on keeping? That is one of the first considerations you need to address before looking for a tank since some of the equipment and especially your lighting needs will depend on the animals you are trying to keep.
