    removing powerhead from nano cube

The elbow should come right out, you may need to slightly twist it to loosen it and then pull it toward the back of the tank and it will come right out. I used a Mini-Jet 606 in my NC 6 as an upgrade pump, it will give you 150-160 gph flow.

    Tank Disaster...

I have always been told to wait a full 4 weeks before adding any livestock back in the tank.

    Algae Burst!

Like I said they are pretty plain, tannish to brown in color with no real significant markings that I have seen.

How to remove the stock pump in a 12 gallon Nano?

The one thing to keep an eye on after upgrading your pump is water temp. Sometimes the added power causes water temps to rise.

    Another Noob Here! Master Plan...

The main thing I see right now is that I would gradually add the snails and hermits as needed so that they have an adequate food supply when added and I would ditch the urchin. Urchins tend to knock things over and they eat coralline algae. One other thing that I have tried and liked was...

    Algae Burst!

I was able to get some hermits from my LFS that ate hair algae but I don't know their scientific name so you can find them, they were sold as Cortez reef hermits. They are pretty plain looking and are not real big, about 1/2"-3/4" in diameter. I will try to get a scientific name the next time...

    Algae Burst!

I would go with the lights off and shortened photoperiod. Also make sure that you are limiting the nutrients put in the tank by feeding cautiously.

    biocube 29 livestock

I agree, you could add a shrimp or two but fish wise you are stocked about as high as I would recommend.

    Nano Cube 24g

:welcome to the board! You will need a seperate heater, I am not familiar with whats available in the UK but try to get one that can be placed in one of the rear chambers so that its out of sight. You are also correct in not using the bio-balls and rings, the use of LR will give you plenty of...

    Filters

I have a Fluval that I used on a freshwater tank and never had any trouble out of it at all. I think you'll be happy with the Fluval.

    why/ fuge & light?

They hit the nail on the head, reverse lighting is to help stabilize pH swings.

Best cure for algae = TIME?

I have always found a similar cycle in a new tank like you describe. I have heard it called the new tank syndrome before. Some of it can be minimized through things like flow and consistent maintenance but they still make an appearance during the initial break in period.

    surgical latex gloves

Using surgical gloves would be expensive and overkill. Plain medical gloves would be fine but you really don't want the powdered kind. My recommendation would be to use either nitrile or vinyl gloves because they are more durable than latex.

    New here

Is there something in particular that you want to keep? If there is that may dictate the minimum size tank you need. The space you have for a tank is also a factor to help determine what you can have. I personally like tanks that have more front to back depth than a standard tank, cubes or...

    Is this overstocked ?

Thanks for clarifying that for me. I wouldn't mind using imp;erial gallons at the gas pumps as long as the prices don't go up to match the extra quantity.

    red Algae

Chemi clean is another product that I have used that worked well. Make sure that you figure out the volume of water in your tank and not the tanks volume when dosing meds like these.

    Is this overstocked ?

If I am not mistaken they use imperial gallons in the UK which are slightly larger, kinda like comparing a liter to a quart but this time metrics aren't involved.
