    Fastest Setup for 12G NC

But if he wants the clowns to host in the anemone, won't he need wild caught clowns? I have been told that captive bred clowns often don't host in anything because they don't know to. Is this true? I have two captive bred Oscellaris, and they don't host in anything. Now, granted, I don't...

    really dumb question

This is all very interesting. I thought they were some kind of weird mold or something. It never entered my mind that they were hitchhiking sponges. Does anyone know where these things come from? Are they hitchhikers? I assume they are filter feeders. ?? My reef tank is about three months old...

    really dumb question

sadielynn, what are these sponges that you are talking about? In the past few days, I've noticed TWO weird growths in my reef tank and had absolutely no idea what they could be. Both are white and look like little cotton balls. Are these sponges like the ones you are talking about? Both of mine...

    what kind of tank?

Really, you can use any size tank. It just depends on what you like, and what you want to have in it. I have a 15 gallon reef tank that is flourishing just after about 3 months in operation. I prefer the long tanks (a 30 long would be great!). Because the depth isn't that deep, you don't...

    Planning my 20L

I love long tanks! Have fun setting it up. Your lighting is ample for any corals. Are you going to set it up, let it cycle, then move the things from your 5.5 nano into this new cube? That's so much easier than trying to move a whole tank all at once. (I just had to do that, it's no fun.)...

    clear gummy worms

I have those, too. They are harmless, and a good part of your clean up crew. Spaghetti worms! Their "arms" are sticky, and as they sweep them around outside their rock, they pick up bits of detritious, food, etc. and bring it back to their rock. Inside the rock is the body of the worm...

    i got a bigger tank

Do you know what the tank was used for previously? Freshwater or saltwater? Gang: Isn't the possible use of copper medications in the tank's past a potential problem?? I've alway been wary of previously used tanks. Is this a problem, or should we not have to worry about that? While there...

Brand New, I am!! Tank Cycle questions

Hi, Eric, and welcome to the site! You'll love the folks here. They are very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful! I was in your shoes just a few months ago, and today I have a gorgeous healthy reef tank! So hang in there. It does require a lot of patience, particularly at the beginning. But...

2005 Fall Contest - Vote for the winner

Hey, Yellow Watchman Gobies and Clown Fish are the two species I have in my 15g. reef! They are my favorite fish! Great choices, guys!! :)

    evaporation

Yes, it evaporates much quicker in the winter, when the furnace is running. Look at the good side: You won't need a whole house humidifier. Your tanks will do it for you. :) My house used to be really dry and I had a terrible time of it. But not anymore, thanks to my tanks!! :) But you...

Yeah, there are no dumb questions... (except for mine). ;)

    another dumb jcs112 question

If I remember correctly, I read that star polyps don't like a strong current. I have mine in areas of low current, and they are all very happy. Try moving them to a slower spot. I'm afraid I can't answer about the powerhead. I don't use one, so I'm not sure. I tried one once in my 15g. but I...

flatworm exit - some random thoughts and observations

Thanks, djconn! That's good news about your pods. I will be ordering some FWE today. I'll post again after I've treated and let you all know how it goes.

Those darn flatworm thingies are back -- in droves!

Thanks, Everybody! I'll get some FWE and get to it. I can always reseed my tank later with pods. I hate those darn flat worms! They're worse than algae.

Oh no! That's depressing. I love my pod culture. I have a ton of pods of all shapes and sizes!!! I would hate to lose those.

flatworm exit - some random thoughts and observations

This is a very timely topic for me. I have a ton of these things now. I'll have to order some FWE, and in the meanwhile, I'lll siphon as many of them out as I can. That should help reduce the amount of toxins emitted when they die. Wish me luck!!

Those darn flatworm thingies are back -- in droves!

Has anyone ever used Flatworm exit? I think I've heard mixed reviews of it, when I mentioned it previously on this forum. I tried siphoning them out, but that did no good. They came back with a vengeance.
