    help with reef safe rock

I don't think it hurts your tank any, it's just up to how you want it to look.

12g NANO LIGHT UPGRADE (70w vrs 150w this time) 05.04.06

JbJ has a 150w for under $200 w/o shipping. Even still, i'm cracking my self up because of the thought on purchasing a mh for a small tank. Don't get me wrong i'm buying one myself, but when I had 84w on my 40g a decade ago I thought it was the shiznit.

    help with reef safe rock

lava rock is usually used in freshwater applications, i've never seen it in a saltwater tank and i've been involved with this hobby for 10+ years. I can't say it's necessarily bad, but replacing it with live rock will improve the water condition and make the tank look natural.

Trickle down filtration and bioballs = Nitrate???

I wouldn't bother with the bioballs. With that amount of ls and lr you have to think of the surface area contianed in those items, bioballs are used to generate a lot of surface area for bacteria to break down bad stuff in your tank right? The only problem is that their is nothing keeping the...

Best Filtration medium in 12 Gallon Aquapod?

I would take out the rings and balls (no pun intended). I only keep the sponge in there and do a water change every week.

72 Oceanic Reef Ready Bow Front Evolution...

you should dedicate a power outler just for the reefkeeper, plugging that into the power strip maybe too much for it too handle.

    Starting over....

Thanks for the suggestions, i'm not willing to go that far as to modifying the structure of the tank. My philosophy is to keep it simple, effective, and fun. I'll try the maxi 1200 and see how that works.

72 Oceanic Reef Ready Bow Front Evolution...

Damn, good thing you caught that right away. Your tank is beautiful, the corraline is awesome! Just a side note but, I had brown carpet about 10 inches wide about 12 years ago. It was my first saltwater tank and the guy at the store told me they ate plankton! I kept having fish...

    That awful caulerpa

The yellow tang will only manage your caulerpa, it will not harm your corals or algae, just the stuff you don't want. 15 gallons is small for a yellow tang in the long term, but it should do the job sufficiently.

    Starting over....

So I had a year and a half old healthy nano cube, I go on vacation and come to find my mini indo-pacific reef looking more like a mississippi swamp. My ballast had burnt out :lighting over vacation and I lost everythin. So after cursing at the gods and pondering getting rid of my tank I...

    hydrometers...

So was the store reading you had low salinity or high? Sometimes cheap hydrometers will have the arm stick to the side of the container, try flicking it a couple of times, it sounds like a shadetree mechanic fix but try it, and test several times before adding new water.

i think i've been taken for a ride....

Definetly aipista, those things have a very strong sting to them. Get a peppermint shrimp, they will eat the aipista and then get rid of the peppermint shrimp. A lot of books and websites will tell you peppermint shrimps are reef safe, but, try telling that to my sea cucumber that the...
