    From LPS to SPS....

Mike, Sorry for the late response, and maybe your plans have changed, but i just wanted to mention a few things. 1) if you're planning on going w/ SPS try to get that salinity closer to 1.025. also, if you don't have a refractometer, i'd suggest one when going with SPS. they have...

    Updated Pics - Perfecting Macro...

Hi Mike, nice pics, tank looks great! i wish my digital elph (s110) could do that. :( just wanted to comment on the proximity of the frogspawn and the crocea. you might want to watch out for signs of stress from the crocea, i think they are suceptible to coral stings.

    From LPS to SPS....

Hi Mike, I think your choice of starter SPS is a good one. For a nano tank, i suggest sticking with the digitatas. a capricornus could look cool, but prepare to do a lot of trimming as these grow FAST and you'll soon end up with real estate problems all over again. my suggestions for...

    help!

the green one is halimeda. i don't know the name of the red one but it is commonly called red turf algae. both are very common on florida live rock. the halimeda is a calcarous algae, and will die in tanks w/ low calcium values. edit: looking more closely at the pic of the red, you also...

    what's up with avatars?

right now i live on the edge of LV & Henderson, in Silverado Ranch. i doubt it existed when you lived here. early next year, we'll be moving to Coronado Ranch, off Jones & the 215. too bad you no longer live here, we could do some trading!

well, linking to my avatar seems to work (hosted elsewhere). but i hope you guys can get the hosted avatars to work soon. it's a pretty popular feature. :)

    Using unique HTML Title tags?

Hello, i was wondering how difficult it would be to use unique titles? it's kind of a pain because it renders the Back button useless. all i see is: Nanotank Nanotank Nanotank it would be nice if it read: Nanotank: Pictures of my tank (or whatever thread name) Nanotank: Search...

    what's up with avatars?

i'm getting the same problem on both IE6 & FireFox 1.0. blank page when i tried to upload an image (4kb, 60 x 56). got this error when i tried to upload from another server: Could not write avatar file to local storage. Please contact the board administrator with this message DEBUG...

    Clown Goby

they do perch in SPS corals, inhibiting polyp extension. IME, they're best in larger tanks with multiple SPS colonies for them to choose from. if you just have a few colonies, they'll get so much "perch time" that you'll rarely see your polyps. clown gobies are also highly territorial and...

Nano pics update (12.19.04) *nice pics*

I got mine from an LFS. they got it from a local med supply shop... check your Yellow Pages. I doubt that they wouldn't sell it to you, especially if you explain why you need it. heroin junkies aren't the type to say: "i use the needles to propagate mushroom corals. i need one that's...

Nano pics update (12.19.04) *nice pics*

another method is to stab a syringe needle straight through the shroom and into the rock you want to mount it in. i've done this successfully with yumas and ricordea.

    How to frag?

squishy thing? oh dear  there are several write ups out there, try a google search. with shrooms, you'll usually see that people slice them up. with zoanthids, the most common way is to *gently* peel the mat free from the rock. or you can just bust the rock, cut away any mat that...

that sounds good to me! just let me know as it gets closer to April. beware though, if you can't find a sober moment, i'll slyly replace what you want with some brilliant browns ;)

Nano pics update (12.19.04) *nice pics*

to me, moving is the biggest issue. if it decided to sit on your frogspawn, that could end up in a major disaster in such a small volume of water like our nano tanks. secondly, RBTAs can get really big. if you search for more than a few minutes, you're bound to find a pic or two of a RBTA...

Nano pics update (12.19.04) *nice pics*

steven, have you researched the RBTA? there may be some others who do not agree, but i do not suggest getting an anemone for a nano tank. they are better suited in larger tanks, and as the first inhabitant of an established system. jeff
