allright, got my light yesterday, had a little problem with it. The guys building the light forgot to slide the bulb in all the way. It looks pretty good, little bit of blue in it, we'll see how it works.

It looks like coralline, but if that stuff is slimy it's slime algae. Bad stuff.

It might be something dying on the rock. Get rid of it too be safe.

I don't think it hurts your tank any, it's just up to how you want it to look.

JbJ has a 150w for under $200 w/o shipping. Even still, i'm cracking my self up because of the thought on purchasing a mh for a small tank. Don't get me wrong i'm buying one myself, but when I had 84w on my 40g a decade ago I thought it was the shiznit. :mrgreen:

lava rock is usually used in freshwater applications, i've never seen it in a saltwater tank and i've been involved with this hobby for 10+ years. I can't say it's necessarily bad, but replacing it with live rock will improve the water condition and make the tank look natural.

I wouldn't bother with the bioballs. With that amount of ls and lr you have to think of the surface area contianed in those items, bioballs are used to generate a lot of surface area for bacteria to break down bad stuff in your tank right? The only problem is that their is nothing keeping the...

I would take out the rings and balls (no pun intended). I only keep the sponge in there and do a water change every week.

you should dedicate a power outler just for the reefkeeper, plugging that into the power strip maybe too much for it too handle.

Thanks for the suggestions, i'm not willing to go that far as to modifying the structure of the tank. My philosophy is to keep it simple, effective, and fun. I'll try the maxi 1200 and see how that works.

Is that reefkeeper plugged into that power strip?
