well one saga ends and a new begins: here is the link to the build:

http://www.nanotank.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2975

and here is the link to the 35 hex that this tank replaced. All animals and equipment were transfered to this tank and when it arrives on friday i will be replacing the 14K MH with a 10K to better replicate the shallow water environment and match the theme

http://www.nanotank.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=26

now a few pics - not the best shots but i wanted to post something to document the new beginning

Beautiful, J/D.

One thing... i think you take most of your shots with the flash... any way to get a FTS without the flash?

thanks,

Jesse

sorry jesse but i can't - don't know what i'm doing i guess...... with the flash the colors get screwed up and "browned out" and with out it the pics are always dark and all the color is lost????????????
and the beauty of this tank is the normal view is from above.......not through the glass, it really is nice.......everything just glows! this is my favorite tank ever!!
i am going to move all my SPS's in there next weekend (after dipping of course) in prep of dosing the 125 with FE - i can't wait to see a couple of those from above!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and yea jenny it is a bit "bland" in those pics :) - wish i could capture the true colors - but the worst part is that after the swap in june - 27 of those pieces will be gone (hopefully) and it will really look empty..........oh well maybe i'll get a couple cool corals to add afterwards

thanks for looking though........

wellllllll.......funny you should ask.........notice the three 1" holes in the false wall - guess why they are there :) - but all is going great now believe it or not i'm thinking about adding two more pumps (maxis) up high, behind the wall on a natural wave timer ...........i may just have to drill another hole or two ;) i also have a remote fuge/sump hooked up (the internal one was a total wash, not enough sump volume) with about 20lbs of fully curred LR in there - trying to avoid any kind of cycle, diatom bloom, or worse yet cyano attack in the first month after the transfer- but it is awesome - only a few mods needed

just a quick update - no pics. I added two more pumps MJ900 on a natural wave timer i thought about going with 1200 - good thing i didn't :). this gives me around 3000gph on a 22 gal tank....i like it and the polyp extention on the corals shows so they...
and i broke my own rule and bought a wild caught A. valida colony from drs. F+S - its small only about three inches around so its not much bigger then a frag..........hope i don't regreat it - its a very pretty beige/aqua with purple tips - hoping it colors up more once it adapts to my lights..........

You have a regular frag farm going there. Are you planning on placing all of the frags in that tank or are some of them just growing out? I would love to see a more recent pic.

thanks guys,
yea i have frags everywhere right now, i have some in my 20g, and some in the sand bed of my 125 too... I am going to the Drs F+S frag swap in june and hope to get rid of most of them - i want to set this up as more of a display tank and less of a frag tank. with the new acro i bought last week i will be keeping 8 acros and 6 montis in this tank - all of which are grown on to that rock so i can't change my mind :) the corals that i plan on keeping that weren't attached to the rock i have already returned to my 125. around the rock i plan on placing zoa frags and letting them fill in around the bottom of the tank kinda like they are in my FTS shot. i may also glue a couple encrusting montis on the back wall
i've been waiting to post a new FTS till my bulb gets good and "burnt" in and the corals adapt to the new light, i switched out the 14K for a 10K almost 2 weeks ago and i am already seeing some good things happening - faster growth and the corals are lightening up and coloring up better too.......
i'm currently working on the refuge for this tank - i am going to drill a couple holes in a ten and add a few baffels. it is going to be an "upstream" fuge so the water returns to this tank by gravity, not pump so i want it to look really nice and if all goes well it will be more of a display tank in itself then a sump - with live rock, cheato, and maybe a fish or two???????

Your SPS corals look great. I wish I could afford the electric bill for a metal halide. There's a clam tank at the LFS like your tank, but their tank over flows into a drip pan and the water is recycled in the cabinet and then brought back to the tank in the center. It's like a waterfall that spills over the four walls of the tank.

OK i wasn't going to do an update till august (1 year anniversary for some of these corals) but i was practicing some top down shots and a couple turned out OK so i'll put them up. the color on top down shots is awesome - really captures their beauty. most of these frags are between 6-11 months old and all are captive bred or mariculured frags:
